“We are so thankful for GWTKV for having an amazing offering for children with additional needs.

We as parents did not think such an inclusive club existed, and it has been a wonderful experience for our son who has flourished over the holidays and been able to participate in activities at a great venue (Enfield Cricket Club).

We believed he would have to remain at home for six weeks and were so concerned about this, and sad for him. But now we are so happy!

The staff have all been so upbeat and fun loving. You can tell they have a passion for kids. As soon as we arrived on our first day, we got high fives and lots of encouragement which was so heartwarming. People sadly don’t always welcome our children this way.

There were lots of activities and fresh air. I even have some lovely drawings as keepsakes.

I really hope the provision continues to run in the future as it’s honestly been a lifeline and such an important bridge between school years. My son’s vocabulary, which is limited, has come on so much, and we feared regression over the six weeks, so we could not be more thrilled.

“I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to Akile and her team at Get With The Kidz Vibe for providing my 6 year old Autistic son, Leon, the happiest, safest and friendliest summer club to attend.

Leon has severe learning difficulties, is pre-verbal and starting to say some words. He attends Russet House School. He is also in nappies and needs support in all aspects of his daily routine like managing his safety because he has no danger awareness and help at mealtimes.

Thankfully Leon receives HAF funding from LB Enfield. Sadly when it came to finding an appropriate summer scheme provided by the HAF programme which met Leon’s needs, I quickly discovered that the choices were very limited, and the degree of Leon’s learning difficulties placed him at a deficit. All the schemes also do not accept children who are not yet toilet trained as a rule. This discovery was deeply upsetting and frustrating, especially when it was clear to see how easy it was to find neurotypical play schemes, how wide the choices were and how abundant they were.

I felt so anxious and upset about this in the weeks leading up to the summer holidays and questioned how I would cope, because I have the additional challenge of caring for my 7 year old daughter who has complex medical needs, neurodisibilty and is also non-verbal. Caring for both children is both rewarding and challenging beyond words. The support and access from schemes, particularly during holidays and weekends is a complete lifeline to us.

I discovered GWTKV and spoke to Akile over the phone. She assured me that she and her team would do whatever they could to meet Leon’s needs and suggested he try out a session. We agreed to see how the team got on with Leon still being in nappies and would assess the situation after his first day.

From the moment Leon started there it was clear to see how much happiness it brought him. He absolutely loved the outdoor areas and the vast grounds were an instant hit for Leon. He loved to explore and take in the nature around him through his sensory needs. This environment instantly created a sense of calm and positivity for him.

Most importantly Leon instantly connected with the staff and began to form trusting connections with people. This allowed him to gain confidence in developing his speaking and understanding of language. His communication skills have excelled throughout the time he has attended GWTKV, and each day I was given more feedback about how he was thriving and developing. Upon each pick up, I was often been reduced to tears when the staff inform me about the words and sentences he has been saying to them!

I am so grateful to all the staff at GWTKV for their professionalism, their exceptional care and support of Leon and encouragement which has led my little boy to develop in confidence with communicating. He has formed meaningful connections with adults and children at the scheme and I have felt reassured that despite Leon’s vulnerabilities, he was in the best hands with people who understood him and helped him thrive.

Every time I would pick up or drop off Leon at the scheme, I saw firsthand how much respect, support, positivity and care the staff have for the children and one another. It felt like an inclusive family which allows each child to be who they are whilst they explore their environment and engage in activities and with others.

Not only was this an immensely positive experience for Leon, it has also restored my faith that there are people and schemes which can deliver a summer programme which brings such joy for children like Leon, and ensure that he has the same access to fun and stimulation that any non SEND child automatically has.

Leon and I look forward to more fun sessions at GWTKV and owe our heartfelt thanks for their hard work and dedication to making the summer scheme the best it could be.”
